I was here due to London fashion week, Somerset house, a large house of neoclassical London landmark! A good place to visit but check before you go as it's full with events held here.
I was quite disappointed at the cost of entry after having been to so many other Galleries which are free. I know that I am cheap - but it is difficult to find the wherewithal to pay £15, if it were a... read more »

Amazing place in the heart of London. Hosts great exhibitions and also summer film screenings in one of the only open-air cinemas in area. The atmosphere is amazing even if the weather is bad, as everybody brings their own blankets, pillows, food and drinks. If you do come to the film screenings, make sure you arrive early in order to get a better spot. The screen is large and the sound is sponsored by Dolby and is amazing.
Amazing venue. It hosts art exhibitions all year round as well as films in the summer, an ice rink and Christmas market in winter and finally is a focal point during London fashion week. It also benefits from lower crowds than the bigger museums and galleries.
Whenever I am down in that area I always stop off at Somerset House. The architecture is splendid and during the Summer children play in the water features and during the Winter they put on events including skating and other stuff. The Film4 season runs down there and last year they had a great exhibition on about "The Jam" which was interesting. Culturally a good place to go, but I still find it breathtaking when I walk in to the square and view the architecture. A "must see" if visiting London.
We have visited Somerset House on many occasions, there is always something of interest and the architecture is amazing. There are snack bars and restaurant within the complex and a terrace looking out over the Thames, there are varying, paying, exhibits. I would highly recommend a visit to this London Treasure.
You can't expect that this place is so close to Covent Garden but never too crowded. The cafe/bars offer a variety of beers wine and snacks.
