  • Firstly go here very early in the morning. I recommend before 6 am. By 8 am you have missed everything but the building. The market is a crazy, wonderful, odd combination of people, sights, sounds and...  read more »
  • The Smithfield meat market is the only one left in the central area, open during the week at 2 at night and closes at noon. The structure in which the market is simply wonderful, designed by the same architect of Leadenhall Market, by going under them even after the market closes in the air still lingers the pungent aroma of flesh and blood (maybe someone could bother). The market is located next to St Bart's Hospital, built right over the area where once burned witches at the stake. Unfortunately I never got to come here to buy something since I have no way to cook in London, let alone bring my meat in Italy, but sooner or later will up early and I toglier√≥ the whim. A place to be seen, if only for the building that houses it.

  • I expected to see more activity. Granted, we were there on the late side--6 am; an arrival closer to 4 am might have been more interesting. In terms of what you'll see, lots and lots of cases with wid...  read more »
  • The only surviving wholesale food market within central London, this is a meat-eater's paradise. Of course, you have to be up early, and there is regularly discussion of closing it to house a museum, or a shopping mall, or more luxury flats but this is well worth a visit. The architecture is stunning. Of particular note is the Christmas meat auction on Christmas Eve. Real bargains to be found, and the meat is excellent quality. To be done at least once for the atmosphere, before it's gone forever as a market.
  • Fresh meat for good price? This is your place. Just walk around and soak up the unique atmosphere of this place early in the morning, see how busy the meat traders are. You can have coffee and breakfast around the market, and if you take your time to talk to people here, you can hear amazing stories from "the old days of the market"
  • Beautiful building not only for his history but also because of his arquitectura vakue
  • I buy meat here regularly, apart from the good quality of the meat, the vast selection and the cheap prices I also like the vibe of this market. It has lots of old cockney blokes chopping up meat through the night, probably some of them has worked the night shift for 30 years straight.
  • Definitely the best place to buy meat in London!!Amazing atmosphere and great products
