Selfridges, London

Department Store Gift & Specialty Shop
A historic department store that set the tone for brand-name shopping in the early 20th century, Selfridges remains one of the premiere British department stores. Inside the London location, designer brands are tastefully displayed on each of the many floors. The shop is the second largest in the country after Harrod's. Enjoy the pampering of staff while shopping or take a tour of the famous store. A visit to Selfridges represents just the start of the adventure when you use our London trip itinerary planner to plot your vacation.

  • One of the best one stop shops in London for high end goods. The layout is easy to follow so you can find what you are looking for. Great selection of brands and the dining options are also very good. Something for every price range can be found with high street brands on the ground floor and high end on the upper floors. I always favour Selfridges over Harrods for a calmer shopping experience.
  • An upmarket shopping experience. High quality is the only option. And expect to pay for the privilege. Lovely sales assistants do their jobs well. VERY busy. Never a dull moment. Always exceptional.
  • DO NOT ONLINE ORDER FOR GIFTS - Absolutely shocking service online. I ordered a drone as a gift and paid the extra charge for gift wrapping. The item was due to be delivered on Monday but was not delivered until Wednesday. When the item arrived, the invoice was in the box!!!! Not a gift receipt, an invoice!!! I then contacted Selfridges Customer Service who said they would simply refund the gift wrapping. I then informed Selfridges that I did not want the product and wanted to arrange a return, this was over a week ago. I since re-emailed informing them how poor there customer service was in addition to letting them know I still required the details for return, however still nothing. This I am afraid has become typical of Selfridges. Their customer service in store is poor too. They have most definatley lost their edge against their competitors. I hope this helps anyone planning something special - try Harrods or Harvey Nicks. Much better service and all online orders are dealt with as advertise or sold.
  • I went in for a bra fitting, but the whole shopping experience here is lovely and luxurious. Multiple floors, expansive displays, polite employees, designer goods, a wide price range... All in all, a really enjoyable experience and a good place to shop! Also, I highly recommend trying a bra fitting there.
  • Selfridges is a beautiful building. It is a home of many big brands. However, most of the shops and brands are outrageously expensive. An ideal place to rip off people who have money to spend. It is not that some of the goods are bad quality or anything like that, it is just unreasonable. Staff is nice, yet the whole place feel artificial and fake. The worst part however is that most of the products are available a lot cheaper online or in smaller shops than there.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
