Queen Mary's Gardens, London

4.7
#28 of 160 in Parks in London
One of London's quietest and greenest corners, Queen Mary's Gardens contains the city's largest rose collection, boasting over 12,000 roses. Nearly 100 neat beds display dozens of varieties, from classic to modern. Part of a 166 hectare (410 acre) park in the northwestern section of London, the gardens also contain nearly 9,000 begonias. Named after the wife of King George V and completed in 1934, the gardens lure visitors with their rich scents and colorful blossoms. Early summer is considered the best time to see the gardens, when most of the plants are in full bloom. • Lovely park. Great place to visit if you love flowers, especially rose. You can find rose in almost all colours 😊
  • 2017 has been quite a bad year with some heavy rain early on and high winds. Queen Mary's Rose Garden looks beautiful as usual meticulously maintained by the Royal Parks gardening team who work really hard to give us all an incredible experience. The smell as you enter the rose gardens is sensational and unforgettable!
  • Lovely garden rich with pretty flowers. Can be very busy on a hot day but never really intrusive as it attracts a relatively respectful crowd
  • Lovely flowers all the way. Exotic roses yet to bloom. Where is Japanese garden island. Not visible even on their map.
  • Such a peaceful and nice place. Definitely looking for it if you are visiting London.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
