Persepolis, London

4.4
#62 of 358 in Shopping in London
Make a quirky gastronomical stop at Persepolis, a cafe and shop whose popularity has made it a tourist attraction. The food here is all Persian-inspired, with an emphasis on vegetarian options. Grab a snack or some tea, then browse the shop's selection of candies, spices, drinks, herbs, pickled items, and other unique finds. Take a bit to appreciate the charming illustrations decorating the venue, and pick up a recipe book or two to recreate the delicious meals at home. • Friendly. Not fast. Worth waiting for. Loved it. Good value for money too. And it adjoins a shop where we could not avoid being tempted to pick up some good value spices.  more »

  • Absolutely lovely place. Almost as nice as my mum's food and that's a massive complement. Haven't had Persian food for quite sometime since becoming vegan but this was definitely worth the wait
  • Wow this place is something else. If you want different - this is it. Quirky little shop for various Persian goods + cafe for food that is open at night too. V kitsch. Friendly staff and accomodating. Serve Vege only.
  • First impressions were ok. Very quaint, artisan, relaxed atmosphere. However after waiting to be seen to a table you find out how close the tables are together. I couldn’t fit in with a rucksack and 1 small shopping back. Also the tables and chairs didn’t match so I couldn’t pull my chair in any further to allow the person behind me to get in. Prices aren’t too bad for London. £6.50 for 4 slices of halloumi and bread £2.50 for a small glass or apple juice. Just one toilet for the cafe, fair enough for the size of it. However I had to walk through food stores and kitchen prep areas. Don’t feel too hygienic but must have passed health inspections to stay open. Tried to pay by card but the reader wouldn’t work as someone was using the phone? Not great internet connection then for 2017. Overall, too many chair and tables for the size of the cafe, wouldn’t like to be stuck in there with a fire. Food was nice just travel lightly.
  • Great tiny place with lovely quirky staff. SO nice to have too much choice as a veggie for once! Also taken friends here both meaty and vegan, and had good reports all round.
  • Delicious, good value, take away mezze and wraps. The shop itself is full of inspiring spices and ingredients. The staff were extremely helpful and offered up recipes and ideas. A must visit.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
