Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.

  • The Cinema is the best in the universe but I feel like those of us who love it are trying to ignore how disastrously downhill the restaurant has gone. Used to be fresh quality ingredients in simple dishes with delicious bravura twists - fabulous salads, meat, fish. The menu has become less and less imaginative or appealing and the execution just awful. Aubergine parmigiana today came as a tiny dish swimming in oil, mostly lumps of chewy cheese with a few slivers of aubergine; green leaf side salad a tiny, mean portion of limp leaves from a supermarket bag with nothing but salt on. Had to ask and wait for dressing (and for the tomato sauce and mayo for the kids burger, advertised as burger with tomato sauce and mayo..). Burger dry, bun stale, veg chips and trimmings all limp dry cold and elderly - nothing fresh at all. Please please Olympic owners, change out the chef and get back to the wonderful local restaurant this used to be. Am sadly about to cancel my evening booking; we'll go over the road to the excellent Thai or Sonny's before the lovely cinema. Bring back your wonderful Olympic restaurant!!!
  • Oh, just the best cinema there is. Seats really comfortable - front row has footstools! It costs a small amount more than conventional cinemas, and with their care and attention to little luxury details, is worth every extra penny. It always feels like a special treat going to the Olympic. I now offer a trip to the Olympic as birthday presents - it's a joy for me and and a lovely surprise for those friends who haven't been before.
  • The cinema is great but it's hard to get tickets less than a week in advance. The restaurant is cozy and lovely but somehow the food is always disappointing and not cheap at all (over £10 a full english breakfast). Coffee is nice though
  • Superb sound & screen quality amazingly comfy seats. Olympic is well worth the extra £5 that a normal cinema ticket would cost. I'm in love with this cinema and want to come back a million times.
  • Beautifully restored building which house a restaurant and the cinema club. If you want to watch a film in style this is the place. They have some very interesting seat selection and excellent cinema food. Not cheap but it will wow your kids!
