We chose the Army Museum to visit as we all have a keen interest in the British Army and after its recent refit we thought we would like to see what had been made of it, especially as we were not keen...  more »

This museum turned out to be not quite what I was expecting, it is very much a journey through army life, however I found it very well laid out and very informative, a great place for a wet day  more »

  • Really fantastic new building that can be hired out if you have the cash... some great things to see..great for mums with kids as they have a playgroup called playbase.. some fantastic paintings of great battles. Very knowledgeable staff... the cafe is nice but a bit pricey... on the whole a great day out.
  • Great breadth of art - from classical paintings, portraits, landscapes, panoramas, aquarelles to pop-art prints and modern art pieces. Showcasing army life through history and offering insight to everyday subjects, like provisioning or entertainment. Very friendly staff, ready to pickup a conversation. A lot of interactive activities that include assembling a rifle, dressing up as a soldier or shooting from a (computer) gun. Sadly tank driving exhibit was closed, but there's plenty to look at without it anyway
  • Newly refurbished (in April 2017), it's a great place for an afternoon out with the family. Lots of interesting tidbits about the UK's military history, plus you can dress up as a royal guard at the post, and pilot a full size battle tank - although we couldn't figure out the controls for the cannon when we tried. There is also a (paid) kids play room with several great military-themed games, you should not miss it if you're visiting with your little ones.
  • I recently visited the newly refurbished museum and what can I say... they've done an amazing job here and it was well worth the visit. We came to visit as a family group of 9 of us as we had visitors coming from overseas and they were certainly impressed with the place. After an hour walk around the museum we stopped at the canteen/coffee place inside the museum for a bite to eat. I must say, we we're certainly impressed when we got there as the layout and ambience is much better than any Costa coffee. The menu was superb for any museum and the girl at the till was extremely friendly and polite. It was only a problem when I ordered 4 coffees/teas and thought that the waiters would bring this to our table. Instead I was shouted at by one member of staff who I believe to be Italian (from his accent) to collect the drinks from the counter. He was extremely rude and to be fair actually embarrassed me in front of my friends who'd travelled so far from Australia. I didn't want to kick up a fuss but I did mention to the guy (with glasses) that he needn't be so rude and he told me immediately "Go back to you seat please as we are very busy here". My experience was great until this guy ruined it for me and my guests. I would certainly come again but I would think twice about going to the canteen.
  • Brilliant! Clean, modern and very interesting subject matter and very balanced. Really great staff too. Will be back and highly recommend it. It was fairly quiet but that made it more enjoyable. War through the ages!

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
