Hamleys stands as the world's oldest and largest toyshop. The flagship store in London spreads out across seven floors and holds about 50,000 toys. It has occupied its current location at No. 188-196 Regent Street since 1981, after having spent the previous 100 years up the street at No. 200. Browse the 5,000 sq m (54,000 sq ft) of retail space, which includes toys covering categories such as arts and crafts, action toys, build it, dolls, and vehicles. Famous toy brands like Barbie, Lego, and Fisher Price are all well represented here, and there are themed sections such as Harry Potter. The store also puts on daily puppet shows, activities, and competitions, so check the schedule before your visit. With our custom trip planner, London attractions like Hamleys can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • The king of toy shops. Five floors of fun with every toy you could ever want. Staff are friendly the shop is clean and when we visited it was a red hot day so they handed out free ice creams and had portable air conditioning units around. From tiny tots to hardened gamers this shop holds something for everyone.
  • Such a nice place for children and adults who like to pretend for a bit that they're not adults yet. There's stuff for everyone here. I personally bought a wand from the Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/etc section, which I thought to be very good value! They had a very extensive range of nerdy items, from necklaces and replicas of small items to life-size brooms and swords. I could've hung around there for quite a while and was honestly extremely tempted by the build-a-bear workshop, having never seen one before. Definitely stop by this shop if you're ever in London, with or without children!
  • Wonderful shop, brilliant staff, so much choice. But as wife in wheel chair. The lift has a sign for able people to use stairs answer escalator. But they don't and child buggies and wheel chair users are very restricted. Needs an assistant there to stop fit and able people from clogging up the lift facilities.
  • You can spend hours enjoying the toys even you are an adult like me. The toys are a bit pricey compared to their qualities. Not all products are of premium quality. Many of them are imports from China. Check for the quality before buying. The best thing about Hamleys is that there many toys specific to this store which you do not see elsewhere.
  • This place is amazing, I loved it as a kid and even more as a parent! Can't recommend it enough. Six floors of amazing toys, with staff spread about demoing the most fun and unique toys. Could spend a day here easily.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
