  • Foyle's has modernized considerably since I visited the place as a student. But it's still a great bookshop, and it's easy to spend a few hours in there, especially on a rainy afternoon as we did. The...  more »
  • Lost in Foyles. It got me my wallet to put brakes on the adventure. Are 5 floors (the last is cafeteria) books of all genres, difficult is choosing what to bring with us.

  • I simply loved it. Unlike many other stores in London it is spacious giving room to the customers and their thoughts to wander around. The architecture is functional, yet airy and natural. The selecti...  more »

  • Amazing selection of books (4 floors of them and the top floor is a cafe). The books range from things you'd find anywhere to less well known things. Prices are reasonable, and even at times the same or cheaper than online. It's like a treasure trove to explore. If you're a fan of books and reading carve out a few hours to explore!
  • This new Foyles is great. The only thing I shouldn't be telling you is... the Cafe on the 5th floor. It's great. Coffee is superb. Food good. Prices OK. Now it'll be a chore to get served. Oh well! Every floor is wheelchair accessible. Staff relaxed and professional.
  • Doylestown is the newest incarnation of the old Foyles bookshop that has been a fixture on Charring Cross Road for a while. Probably the largest bookshop in London, it boasts an extensive fiction section, a huge and comprehensive non-fiction section covering everything from physics to psychology, as well as a nice cafe on the top floor. It even has a small music section selling specialist music and some gallery space, along with a meeting/exhibition space that doubles as extra seating for the cafe. The bookshop itself is built around a white airy staircase which winds its way upstairs in half-floor segments and lifts give step free access to all floors.
  • Foyles has been my happy place since I was a child. On this visit I discovered the range of foreign language books, children's picture books, and art and design reference books. I always find something excellent in Foyles.
  • An alternative place for music purchases. A wonderful selection of classical, theatre and movie CDs, DVDs and BluRay Disks! Very good offers on new releases for the first month or so. There is also coffee and other sources of relaxation available! However, one big note of caution. When a disc is NOT in stock they quote a price, however the price is that when the disc was last in stock! With the fall in the value of the pound, this can make a considerable difference between the price quoted, and the amount to be paid when you collect the item. I did, and was shock when the extra was approx a 20% extra on what I’d been quoted. The fact that staff were well aware of the likely discrepancy, it is surprising the such a “foremost” store apparently has not easily accessible way of quoting a current price rather than one that was only relevant years before.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
