  • We went to the Fenton house for the Easter egg hunt with our kids. They loved walking around in the lovely garden hunting for clues. If you happen to be in London during Easter, I can highly recommend the egg hunt, but be on time, since they only let in a limited number of people at a time. Fortunately, we made it to the first time slot. The garden is very beautiful and calm. We didn't have much time to look through the house itself, but it is well worth the visit. Fenton house is easy to find from the tube station.
  • The main interest of this house is musical instruments, early pianos and harpsichords. Last time when I visited, a pianist was practising with one of those old instruments. If it happened by chance, it is time slipping experience. This time (late May) the garden is fabulous. Again it is small, but as it cleverly divided into the different styled sections, it gives much bigger impression. Lovely place to revisit again (and again) in different seasons.
  • Very interesting selection of harpsichords, ceramics, tapestry and paintings. Stunning view from top floor balcony. Informative and friendly volunteers. Highly recommend a visit.
  • When they say former trader's home - I think they mean former slaver. Back when it was first built, this must've been like watching a footballer move in. It's worth a nosey around (unless you really hate The National Trust) and must be one on the highest vantage points over London.
  • It feels like a privilege to be allowed in such a wonderful place.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
