Clarence House, London

4.2
Tour the official residence of the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince Harry at Clarence House. As one of the few traditional aristocratic houses remaining in London, the property is where honored guests are hosted. For a limited time during the summer, the residence is open to the public via a 45-minute guided tour. Tour the five ground-floor rooms where official business is conducted. Check the website for opening dates and reservations. • Beautiful part of British history. The home of a great man.
  • If you are a fan of the Royals, this is a must see! Present home to Charles and Camilla. Former home to the Queen Mother who was its longest inhabitant, living there for over 50 years. Only open in August. It is located right beside Buckingham Palace. What a lovely and cozy home! Tip: Buy the VIP ticket which gets you a guided tour inside, a souvenir book and a glass of champagne. Note that pics are not allowed inside, which is why I took photos of the guide book.
  • Disappointing visit except for diehard fans of the royal family. Neither the house nor the garden are very interesting. However, the guide was very enthusiastic and had a good sense of humour. Although she was knowledgeable about the people who had lived in the house, she had little to say on the furnishings and works of art, except for who sat on what chair or embroidered this or that.
  • Prince of Wales home. Fabulous
  • Highgrove Christmas shop was fabulous!!

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
