Camden Market, London

4.4
With hundreds of stalls selling clothing, crafts, and food, Camden Market is one of Europe's largest markets. The nexus of one of London's most offbeat neighborhoods, the market joins together a series of smaller markets. Start in Camden Lock Market, the one that helped give rise to the others. Here you'll find music, films, books, crafts, and unusual gift items. Head to Camden Stables Market for vintage clothing and antiques. Most of the markets contain food stalls, but go to Inverness Street for fresh produce and continental-style restaurants. Sunday is the busiest day here, and the Camden tube stop restricts inbound service in the afternoon to help manage the crowds. You'll find fewer people--but also fewer open stalls--on weekdays. • Camden Market was an unexpected find, but so great that we actually returned for a second visit. On our vacation in London we took a wonderful and interesting narrow boat trip from Little Venice to Camden Market. The plan was to leave the area and proceed to the next place in our itinerary. However, there was so much to see and do and eat at Camden Market that we spent two hours there. We spent a total of 4 & 1/2 days touring throughout London, but somehow ended up buying most of our souvenirs in Camden Market. My daughter got hand painted London sneakers, which she wears to school. She also got an animated Studio Gibli t-shirt and a mini Union Jack backpack that she uses to carry around her gaming system. I bought a hand woven cap and there was an absolutely, romantic Gothic stall where I bought a lovely lace top. I also picked up 3 hand painted pot spoon rests that are so pretty. My husband and son also found things they liked too. It is such a large market with so many options. We all bought food from different food stalls too, based on what we all felt like eating. While in London we also visited Borough Market, and found it to be cute, but Camden Market was dynamic.
  • Great place to visit. There are a lot of shops to buy souvenirs and everything else you can imagine. Also, on weekends you can have some street food. You can taste different cuisines, from typical fish and chips to Thai, or whatever. Best spot, the Hansel and Gretel sweet shop! Well done!
  • This is such an authentic part of London that you can't miss it if you want to feel properly immersed during your stay. London isn't just about the boulevards, palaces and skyscrapers - it's also about the small scale life that gives the city its flavour. There's such a great diversity of food and shops that you can wander around this place for multiple days and not get bored. My visit here was very enjoyable and I recommend Camden Market to everyone.
  • Great place to buy stuff and eat! The market is wonderful and full of choices. The food smells incredible and it's a must go place to visit during your stay in London. I would definitely come back just to try different restaurants and have a great time.
  • The Camden Market (and neighboring Camden Lock Market, Camden Town Market, and Horse Tunnel Market) are filled with cute little shops, amazing food, and a few tourist traps. I enjoyed exploring the maze of tunnels, shops, and great scenery. Watching the little river boats actually use the lock was a highlight. There are so many restaurants here with amazing vegan options, I was overwhelmed by choice. The vast majority of the shops are clothing, and some tourist trinket shops. I enjoyed browsing before it got too busy, I'd suggest showing up early in the morning.
