Wat Buddhapadipa in London was the first Buddhist temple to be built in the United Kingdom.

It was established by the London Buddhist Temple Foundation with the objective of creating a centre for the dissemination of theoretical and practical Buddhist teachings in Europe.

We have been visiting this place more often both special Buddhist celebration days or usual days to this temple. This place offers meditation sometimes (best to check with their website) and come on a...  more »

The place is magnificent, full of spirituality. Unusual for those of another religion. Too bad it's very neglected. There are so many aquatic animals

Often when I visit a temple, I am struck with awe or seduced by its charm. Unfortunately, however, the Buddhapadipa Temple left me a little disappointed, as it did not have that wow factor. Though the...  more »

  • It is a nice place to go and meditate but the language over there is not nice, I was studying there when I was 8 years old but left 9 the school because I was being bullied because I have got autism and I was a big fan of Harry Potter, and the teacher saw what was going on but just didn't bother to help. So my mum came into the classroom and pulled me out, I now go to Christian churches occasionally.
  • The gardens and the temple invite you to meditate. Quiet and nice atmosphere. You will be requested to remove the shoes, and to leave them outside. Inside there is a nice and worm carpet. Totally worthy going there for some spiritual time or just to admire complex.
  • Really Nice and almost the same as in Thailand.! really peachfull place and polite Monks !")
  • A beautiful place with exquisite wall paintings throughout the interior rooms.
  • If you're a Thai buddist stuck in the UK with no way to get home, then this is the place for you! There are no cats, the weather is cold like the rest of this dreary country, but otherwise it is quite like a chunk of thailand. If you can imagine a small temple in a forest in the north of Thailand in the cold season, I think that is not far off the mark. Sometimes they have festivals with lots of very tasty food. Sometimes a neighbourhood cat jumps over the wall and it's just perfect.

Where to stay in London

Many of London's main attractions are spread out, so nearby public transportation is key. There is no downtown area as such in London, and some of the least expensive hotels have more convenient access to tourist sites than the costlier ones. For a quintessential London experience, consider staying in the West End. This part of town offers excellent theaters, historical sites, and eating and shopping options for every taste. Lodging won’t be cheap, but you’ll have the colorful variety of London life right at your doorstep. Look at Notting Hill or Chelsea for charming and less expensive boutique hotels and B&Bs.
