  • As mentioned in my previous review of Lochranza, this is not that of a couple of streets with perhaps 30 homes but this village at the base of a gorge at the end of the String. The castle is there, simple, a mini ruin on a small strip of land in the middle of the sea but the place gives me beautiful energy for a Scottish lover like me. Don't expect a castle like everyone else present in "mainland" but a small ruin surrounded by a palette of colors proportionate to this island. A ruin that had also an important story

  • Definitely worth a quick stop. There isn't a whole lot to see, but the signs give a bit of perspective on the history of the ruins. It only takes a few minutes to see and is just up the main road from...  more »
  • The castle ruin sits in a large bay with stunning views across to Bute and of the hills on Arran. The villiage of Lochranza is very small but you could combine this with a visit to the local distiller...  more »

  • Well kept ruins of a castle situated in a commanding position beside the Loch. Find a space to park your car, cycle or walk to the castle. Well worth visiting, but won't take too much time either. Red deer can often be seen near the castle in Lochranza.
  • Stunning views and a wonderful walk from the distillery or ferry point.
  • Nice remains of a castle. Minimal interpretation but still worth a look.
  • Beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, beautiful landscape. A must stop place
  • Great for some photos and a little history lovely little castle
