Loch Eck; is a freshwater loch located on the Cowal peninsula, north of Dunoon, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is seven miles long. Apart from Loch Lomond, it is the only naturally occurring habitat of the Powan .
Loch Eck is within the Argyll Forest Park which, is itself part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
The loch is also an impounding reservoir with a concrete dam measuring 0.870 metres high. The dam was completed in 1973. Loch Eck now supplies the freshwater to much of the southeast of Cowal, including Dunoon.
In July 2013, two dogs died due to algal bloom present in the loch. Warnings were then posted advising that people and animals should avoid contact with the water.

  • A beautiful peaceful haven, with many different plants and birds. A shame the water had blue algae during our visit.  more »

  • Gorgeous peaceful Loch. Plenty of places to stop for a rest or picnic or just to stretch your legs. Perhaps when warm enough could have a swim.  more »

  • Beautiful place, looks different almost every day. Spoilt a little by limited access and walking along the eastern shore caused by the main road. Drive carefully - there are many accidents along here. Two watering holes: The Coylet and Whistlefield Inns.
  • Stunning an absolute must see. A hidden gem
  • This inland freshwater loch is great for kayaking. It was a grey, blustery day, but still had a good time. Tgat a are no loos or anything, but lots of places to easily launch kayaks from. One side is by a busy road, but just paddle to the other shore for little beach areas and forest and peace.
  • Stunning scenery and peaceful
  • Beautiful place good eating places down the loch side
