We have visited the mines twice now and it's been so much fun. The tour is amazing (make sure you book in your slot as soon as you go in as it's very busy and you could wait about an hour before you c... more »

Fantastic day out. Well worth a trip. We did both the Victorian and the Roman tours and our guide, Drew was very engaging and informative. Be warned it's very "drippy" in the mines & if you are not that fit, there are lot of steps up to both mines as other reviewers have said. A very memorable and unique National Trust day out.
Fascinating tour of the Victorian phase of the gold mine. Friendly and informative guide (Alison). Unfortunately we weren't able to stay long enough to tour the Roman mine, although we had the amazing experience of leaving the mine via a steep flight of steps carved into the rock by the Romans. We shall certainly be visiting again.
Have you ever walked in the foot steps of a Roman miner? You can on this gold mine tour. We had a very funny guide who dresses you up in all the gear and then you descend into the mine workings. This is where the Rose coloured gold that Royal wedding rings are made of comes from. Worth 3 times that of regular gold it takes tons of ore to produce grams of gold. No longer commercially viable. You ascend the mine on steps carved by Roman miners.
Excellent place, staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and great with kids (Drew and Kay were brilliant). The mine tour was really good and even our 4yrs old enjoyed. The food was also excellent and reasonably priced. Will definitely recommend and Hi back.
This visit was unplanned but so please I stopped there. Some interesting exhibits giving an insight into how good mining in Victorian times as done. The history of the mine and the high regard for welsh good is fully covered along with what is known of Roman mining at the site. Facilities include a N. Trust shop and small cafe. The for on offer is basic but showers to be well received and enjoyed by visitors. Being a Ceoliac I would have liked to have seen a wider choice of gluten free options, but at least there as something available to show the hunger pangs. Two guided tours are available throughout the day, the Victorian tour and the Roman. I opted for the Victorian and marked up the Roman for another day. The tour guide was very informative and friendly. Hard hats and headlamps were supplied. The walk itself was suitable for all ages though being underground the rock was a little wet at times though not unduly so. The highlight for me was being given the option to climb out of the mine using 2000 year old steps cut by the Romans! (Note: you must consent to using this exit route as normal Health and Safety guidelines cannot be fully guaranteed i.e. you use the steps 'at your own disk's .. that said everyone in our party, from children to the elderly took up the option. Quite an experience if you are the type to be humbled by historical endeavours 😁 A thoroughly enjoyable day out that I would readily recommend to app
