Lewes Castle & Barbican House Museum reviews

Lewes Castle is superb. There's a walled lawn which is referred to as a bowling green which it may be, but my imagination has it as an archery range. Either way it's magnificent and so are the views..... more »

Are castles more atmospheric in the rain? We visited on a stormy wet Octobee weekend, and you feel yourself going back in time. In May 1264, the unpopular Henry III and his soldiers left the... more »

Nice small castle. The views from the top are really nice. The student ticket costs £8 and it includes the entrance to the castle and to a small museum on the side. The museum has two levels... more »

This was my first visit to a castle, I was super excited, but was kinda disappointed after being there. There's nothing much to see. I was told it would take 1-1.5 hour to visit the whole are. To be honest 20 mins will suffice. So if you plan to come from far, then don't visit this place. The museum was small but okay. I liked the collection of paintings. That room made it worth. :)

Excellent views if you can climb the steps to the turret, lots of dressing up for the children (and adults!) with hats and lots of period outfits. An enjoyable couple of hours.

Expensive but maybe just about worth it. It won’t take you more than a few hours but the views and sense of history are great... worth it if you’ve got the spare cash. There isn’t really much beyond this. The activities are quite limited but our kids had great fun running around and playing in one of the activity rooms. I question why it needs to cost so much given the development was funded by lottery money.

Next to bus stop and just out of the high street, great views across the town and more. Go on better days to get views, lots of steps to encounter.

Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Well kept gardens with all the information of the plants labeled. In-depth information of the development of Lewes Castle and its history. Plenty to see and read. Fantastic panoramic view at the top of the spiral staircase.
