Roundhay Park, Leeds

4.6
#1 of 19 in Parks in Leeds
One of the largest city parks in all of Europe, Roundhay Park is a collection of woodland, lakes, and landscaped grounds. Bring a picnic in the good weather months, or hike through the woodland and enjoy the local plant and animal life. Inside the Canal Gardens are a group of greenhouses, each protecting plants from different climates. Enter Tropical World inside the Coronation House to discover one of the largest collections of tropical flora in the United Kingdom. Inside, butterflies and aquariums fill the rooms with color. On your way to the "Tropical World" entrance, you'll pass through a rose garden that was once a vegetable garden for the mansion. Be sure to check out Monet's Garden, where you may recognize the garden path at Giverny from his 1902 painting of the same name. • This park is huge! We were there for 3-4 hours and we only managed to explore about a quarter of the park! On the corner of the park there is a tropical house which is well worth visiting. There are two lakes here, the upper smaller lake and the lower much larger lake. On a sunny day it is well worth coming here! Dogs are allowed. And loads of people were having barbecues so I can only assume that it is OK to do that ( but I'm not certain!) there is a little train "ride" that drives around the park too for a cost of £1. 50
  • Something for everyone. A tranquil and "happy" place. Family orientated. Lovely walks, take the kids to the playground, have a picnic, watch cricket, enjoy the wild life and.. and.. and. This area and more, used to be hunting grounds for the gentry... long time ago!!!! Also, Soldiers field was a runway for the testing of aeroplanes that were built at a factory on Roundhay Road. Just thought I'd mention this!!
  • Me and my family love Roundhay Park, as there is always lots to do and it's free. There's the skate park, playgrounds, large fields and lots of walks. In the warmer months you can generally always see fish in the lake. The cafe is nice too. Great place to train, go running and use the outdoor gym too, if that's your thing. The downside is the parking can get full very quickly, but there's usually places on the roadside.
  • Beautiful woodland streams and wildlife. Stunning lake. Tropical world where you can see butterflies reptiles and meerkats. Monet gardens. (Award winning landscaped gardens) Stunning parkland. What's not to love? Oh and the lakeside cafe where you can sit and admire the views of the lake and the swans. Foods pretty good too! ❤
  • Well maintained park which is always popular with visitors. Great to spend a day there in the sunshine, and watch a game of cricket in the summer! Plenty of space for a picnic or there's a great cafe overlooking the big lake with a good selection of sandwiches, hot food and cakes (though it's not cheap). There are 2 lakes, plenty of tracks through the woods or wheelchair friendly paths. It's by no means flat though! There are also 2 children's play areas, the Mansion House restaurant and The Roundhay Fox pub. It's also well serviced by the local bus routes.
