Lotherton Hall, Leeds

3.7
Explore the expansive estate and gardens of Lotherton Hall for a snapshot of aristocratic England. Inside the manor, wander each room of the house, and read about how life during the 1800s would have been for a wealthy family and its servants. Play croquet in the estate gardens and visit the bird sanctuary's extensive range of endangered species. While you enjoy a picnic, watch the red deer and llamas of the estate play in the meadows. • Lotherton is a great local resource and with it being owned and run by the council, it is priced very attractively. Entry to the hall includes entry to their wildlife park which focuses mainly on birds, but with the recent investment, exhibits some other wildlife on the way in too. The new penguin enclosure is great, although the water is a bit green, so the underwater windows don't work brilliantly, but the penguins seem to love the attention, so they are always coming alongside the windows for a very clear view. Special events at are also managed very well at this site. The recent food and drink festival was handled brilliantly with a load of visitors. Delays entering the site were minimal and the whole place didn't feel overly crowded even though the number of cars in the overflow car parks indicated the number of visitors was very high! The cafe is ok, probably not a highlight of the visit for me. They serve espresso based coffee from a machine but the cakes are good! The house is also very interesting and some of the decor is particularly beautiful.
  • I enjoy coming here with my Family for day trips, and have something to eat and drink. Very good for children and you can take dogs, there is a very good child's play area, and this is gated so it's a really safe place, probably too good because it's quite normal to see Mother's literally trying to get their children to leave as it's that good. The wildlife park is excellent, it's a really nice walk and there is such alot for children to see. Well worth a look.
  • Resonably priced day out for all the family, exhibits change regularly in the house so it’s worth paying for an annual membership. The bird garden has under gone some refurbishment recently so looks more modern and up to date. Lovely gardens and grounds to walk around and plenty of places for a picnic or you can treat yourself to tea and homemade cake in the tearoom.
  • Me and my family love Lotherton Hall. There is always something to do, and the animal section has just had some penguins added which makes it even more exciting for the kids. Membership is reasonable, especially if you will visit at least once a month. The house is nice to look around, as are the gardens.
  • Excellent to visit as a family or couple, lots to do and see. There is a picnic area, wildlife park and play park to occupy the kids. The hall is stunning inside and must be seen. If you get hungry there is a cafe that serves drinks and food. Overall a great day to be had by the whole family.
