This stately, 18th-century home surprises visitors with its displays of contemporary art. At Harewood House, you can also visit the tearooms and family quarters for examples of original Chippendale furnishings or take the little ones along to visit the on-site mini zoo and play area. No indoor photography is permitted, but bring your camera to capture the deer and red kites among the walled gardens. The estate hosts many outdoor festivals. • Having not been here for a few years I wasn't sure if my son would enjoy it or not (8 year old). We paid on the gate as didn't have time to book online. Discounted ticket on line. Went round the house which is beautiful. My son did a kids challenge which he enjoyed in the house. Lovely gardens. Also enjoyed the birds, penguins and seeing the farm especially with the baby donkey! Food was nice although, I wouldn't leave it late if you want a meal as hot food stopped at 2.30pm I think. We were there 4 hours, up to closing time and didn't see everything. Lots to see and walk round. Playground to suit all ages up to 14 years. Really enjoyed it!
  • Harewood house is a truly stunning stately home, steeped in history. It is wonderfully well kept and there is something for everyone. We have been 3 times so far and recently became members as there are different events taking place throughout the year and being a member entitles you to free, or discounted, admission to these events. The house is stunning to look round with guides in all rooms to answer any questions. There is an amazing playground area for children. The gardens are spectacular! There are penguins, flamingo's, donkeys and many other animals to look at. There is a boat on which to take a trip round the lake (there is a small charge for this), there is the most stunning Himalayan garden and also a walled garden where all types of fruit and vegetables are grown. My only criticism is that the food served in the cafés is overpriced. I highly recommend taking your own picnic and eating it at one of the many picnic areas available.
  • A great place to visit and take in some history ! Fantastic gardens, with a great lake and exotic birds of all kinds that make up most of the zoo (don't agree with keeping birds in a cage but that's my personal view). The house itself is great to.waln through as well, and relive some its history. When we visited there was a special Alice in the wonderland theme with some great first and second editions laid around the house. We also enjoyed reading about some of the previous occupants, and their historical impact.
  • A great day out with loads to see. The full £16 ticket is good value but can be discounted slightly if booked in advance online. It covers both the house, gardens and aviary which is a bonus. There is also an extensive play area for children. We also took the 20min lakeside boat trip which at £3 each was both informative and good fun. All in all a great day out and real competition against any local National Trust site.
  • such a beautiful place, I never get bored of visiting. The ceilings are exquisite & there's beautiful detail in everything in every room. it's a nice walk round the farm to see all the animals & also some really lovely birds such as parrots, a crow & some owls etc.Its a beautiful place views from the house are stunning the back garden is really pretty. The staff are very friendly & helpful too.
