Dancing Ledge, Langton Matravers

#6 of 18 in Outdoors in Swanage
Part of the Jurassic Coast, Dancing Ledge appears to dance during certain stages of the tide--it's a kind of optical illusion requiring a specific set of circumstances. Even if you miss the spectacle, the climb is exhilarating and the views worth the effort. • One hell of a hill to climb down and back up again! Went here to do coasteering with a friend. Really nice area, lots of rocks to jump off, Big and small. There is a small cave that you can swim in. B...  more »

  • We walked the mile and a bit (I'm guessing) to Dancing Ledge from the car park on a sunny but cool, fresh, windy day in February, shortly after the snow had melted. The fields looked lovely and green but were quite waterlogged in places, so decent boots were much appreciated. And mud-spattered. The view from Dancing Ledge was beautiful - we were glad we'd taken the time and made the effort.
  • Short walk from the (paid) car park. Best visited at low tide when the rock formations are more visible. Take care on the rocks and the climbs as it might be slippery. Loads of photo opportunities all around.
  • Amazing location for a track with interesting looking cliffs and generallycbr breathtaking views.
  • One of my favourite wild swimming spots. Great views. Time it right so tide is out. Best when tide is just coming in as it keeps the pool refreshed. Quite a walk down to get there and a cliff face to climb down to the pool. Even a bigger walk back up.
  • Quite a walk from Langton Macktravers but well worth the visit.
