  • Part of these ruins aren't actually ruins at all - but a fully functioning parish church. Which makes a visit to Lanercost a bit different, special even. The English Heritage shop is quite small and a bit of a squeeze if several people turn up at once, but the ruins if the priory are well worth it. The carvings and grave statues are really quite fascinating. Have a look around the church as well, as it's part of the original structure of the old priory church.
  • Well preserved place. Interesting information boards both inside the castle and the Church. Sadly not a 5 due to lack of toilet facilities. For which you have to go to the cafe - of which there is a note to say the facilities are for patrons only.
  • The Priory is maintained and run by the English Heritage (and therefore chargeable to visit) however the church; St Mary Magdeline, is a functioning place of worship and free to enter. The church itself is beautiful and has much historical information on the estate inside. Well worth a visit and, as I did when visiting, worth taking a moment to light a candle in memory to those loved ones no longer with us.
  • Beautiful Priory with disabled access if requested. 12th century building on site with other sights to see. Priory ruins managed by English heritage and Dacre Hall open some weekends in the summer to the public, claims to be the oldest village hall in England as it forms part of the old monastery. Bookable for private events. Also host to 3 major craft fairs in the year. Lanercost tea rooms also worth a visit for quality refreshments.
  • Lovely old English Heritage priory. Lots to see. Look in church while there its very interesting. Also have a good cafe and shop.
