Mother Shipton's Cave and The Petrifying Well - TEMPORARILY CLOSED, Knaresborough
(2.6/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Centered around the legend of a prophetess from the middle ages, Mother Shipton's Cave and The Petrifying Well - TEMPORARILY CLOSED holds the only petrifying well of its kind in England. First opened in 1630 as a tourist attraction, the well allows you to witness everyday objects be turned to stone. Wander down the 1.6 km (1 mi) long woodland trail to see both the cave and the well while learning the tale of old Mother Shipton. The walk ends at a small museum and gift shop that sells petrified souvenirs. Be sure to make a wish at the well before leaving; they are rumored to always come true.
