#2 of 6 in Historic Sites in Knaresborough
A magnificent setting for weddings, corporate entertaining and more. Allerton Castle is England’s most elegant and important gothic revival stately home, built by The Lord Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton, the premier Baron of England as a monumental statement of his position within the English aristocracy. Enter into its time capsule and go back into the ambience of an earlier period. Steeped in English history, in the 18th century the property was owned by Prince Frederick (the Grand Old Duke of York), brother to King George IV.

  • Words cannot fully capture how beautiful this place is. We got married here as we wanted a gothic manor house, and dreams really did come true this day !! The house and the grounds it sits in are breathtakingly beautiful, and everywhere you look there is something to see. I also cannot thank the staff enough for all their help. Jessica especially has been amazing and throughout the process of planning the wedding has been incredibly helpful and made everything fall into place. On the wedding day itself, she endlessly ran around making sure everything was going to plan, and also helped me with my wedding dress and sort things out when I had a few issues with the dress. It's only been less than a week and I want to to back and relive every moment. We'll have to come back on a tour of the place one day and see it all again :)
  • One of the friendliest attractions I've been to. Clearly well loved. Guide was very informative. Worth a visit. A wonderful example of dedicated restoration
  • Spent a very enjoyable afternoon on one of the guided tours. Very knowledgeable guide led us round this fascinating victorian gothic building. We'll with a visit. Tucked away off the A59 in beautiful Yorkshire
  • Lovely guided tour by Angela, too much for me to take in. Lovely coffee and cake before and after the tour.
  • Marvellous gothic style house, lovingly restored by current owner.
