  • Had no idea what to expect here but was thrilled by the strange, homespun museum on an old mining site. Very basic. The Ritz it is not! make your own tea and go into a mine tunnel with a hard hat on a...  more »
  • Fab place, fantastic factual tour around the mine I learned so much even at the age of 36!! Children found it fun and the guide aimed the information to all ages. The train ride was novel.  more »
  • unfortunately when on a damp day but did not spoil our enjoyment. lovely little narrow gauge trip in to quarry - not much to see in quarry but what do you expect for modest cost.  more »

  • Very interesting place for a morning or afternoon stopover. Masses of old mining and excavating equipment and machinery across the site some of it truly massively impressive! The small museum is interesting and the staff know their stuff. The best bit is of course the underground mine tour which is fascinating as well!
  • I visited sometime ago, and found the place fascinating. There were plenty of Fred Dibnah types who were all very helpful and were pleased to explain about the heavy plant that was there for anyone with anything more than a passing interest in heavy plant. Well worth a visit!
  • What a great day out! All of our family group (aged 65-2 years) really enjoyed our afternoon at the mining museum. For those aged 5+, the trip down the 'mine' was exciting and informative. I cannot praise our guide highly enough. Panning for 'precious' minerals was an innovative and thoroughly enjoyable experience, If you're looking for a glossy, slick, sophisticated venue this may not be for you. However, if you want a warm, welcoming place to visit, one run by well-informed enthusiasts we highly recommend this.
  • Nice for a wander
  • I am sure with the guided tour this would've been very informative but without it, this place is basically just a preserved scrapyard with a diddy train running through it 😞
