Known as the producer of the famous Westmorland green slate, Honister Slate Mine opened to the public in 1997 while its mining operations continued. One of the mine's main attractions is the via ferrata, a series of steel cables affixed to the mountainside.   • Fascinating tour! Tory was brilliant and so informative, with excellent subject knowledge and a great sense of humour. Thoroughly recommend you visit the Mine if you are in the area.

  • It was an insightful and entertaining tour with our guide Roland. The drive to Honister also boasts quite spectacular views. I would recommend it as a must-go during your visit to Lake District!
