Fairy Glen, Isle of Skye

Take in the verdant scenery and enchanting mysticism of Fairy Glen. Climb up and down the slopes of the small hills and look out for any fairies. Legend has it that they have lived in the glen for centuries. Visit the Castle Ewen, a tower like feature, and discover stone designs made by visitors, or perhaps the fairies themselves. If you’re a confident hiker, head up the narrow path to the top of tower and be rewarded with views of the rolling countryside. Walking boots are recommended, as the glen can get muddy and slippery. Don’t forget to make a wish. Plan to visit Fairy Glen during your Isle of Skye vacation using our convenient Isle of Skye itinerary builder.

Worth a detour. The site is beautiful, expanded enough to be able to walk there peacefully. without a doubt our most beautiful visit to the Isle of Skye, aided by a lull in the weather

The Fairy Glen, Isle of Skye - near Uig, is well worth the effort to find. Our visit was on a day of mixed weather, mostly showers with short breaks of less wet weather. The weather added to the effec...  more »

We spend much more time here than we had planned. There was so much to explore. We went with our 6 year old daughter and it was amazing! The land is owned by a local farmer ( I am pretty sure) and it ...  more »

I loved this place. A small, magical location, filled with small but steep hills with rings etched into them by the sheep, and mysterious stone circles and piles that have obviously been placed by visitors, but still cause you to get swept up in the otherworldly nature of the spot. The grass seems greener here than anywhere else. There are a couple of locations to park, and the walk to the best parts is short from either. Climb atop the highest hill here (it's not that high really) and enjoy the views of the ridge behind, and the waterfalls ahead. Have a seat by the tiny loch on the delightfully named bench, Touchwood.

It really is like walking into a fairy tale, a rather small but thoroughly beautiful area full of mounds and crags covered in grass and flowers and ferns (visited in August). Apparently the multitude of sheep there are great landscapers and also maintain the innumerable little paths leading quite safely all around the place. Some man made features as well but they do not detract from the beauty of it all. There is no car park per se, just find a location where you won't block traffic. Try to be early though, especially in summer months it gets crowded quickly, like everywhere on Skye.

We got attacked by midges opening the car door, but a spritz of Smidge and a quick dash across the road left them behind. Not a long or difficult hike. A chain of very pretty little waterfalls - kind of like someone went overboard on a landscape waterfall system. None of our pictures did it justice.

The landscape here is strange but fascinating. Well worth exploring. That said, it is worth making an effort to get here early in the day before it gets too busy - there is only limited room to park a car.

it was very pretty and has tons of walking trails. There are areas where you can park for free. There is a steam and a pond too. many good vantage points for photos. good hour of your time.
