  • Iron Museum was fascinating, especially the interwoven histories of the founders of the area. Spent about 3 hours. Furnace cafe very good. Also went to the Tile Museum but ran out of time...  more »
  • Booked on line which was a little confusing, £20 but the ticket is valid for a year as only Blist Hill open due to Covid19. It is very well set out and plenty of activities to see. Fish and chips...  more »
  • Good insight to the foundations of our Industrial Age and daily life for people of the time. Victorian village was well done with the actors role playing very well staff and volunteers very friendly.....  more »

  • We went to the indoor part as it was raining. It was really good for the kids. It was a science centre and we spent 2 hours there. So many practical activities. The main attraction was a giant hydroelectric dam model that included lots of wet play. There is also a soft play area for toddlers. Overall the place is highly suitable for kids from toddlers to year 6 I'd say. Cafe and vending machines too. Gift shop has educational and fun stuff. Sweets too.
  • The museum is good, it's worth taking the time to visit on your Gorge entry ticket if you have the time. But don't miss the (free to visit) remains of the furnace at the other end of the car park; the place where modern iron and steel processing began - and thus that influences pretty much every aspect of our modern lives. It's really quite a significant place! If that is lost on the kids then don't forget to take them to Enginuity (behind the museum) - probably one the adults can skip but hands on fun for those still at school.
  • Just returned from a super day at the Victorian Town museum, Blist Hill. Plenty to see and was enhanced for the fabulous weather. Very knowledgeable volunteers and paid staff who in most cases were in period costume. Probably was more of interest for the older visitor as it was interesting to spot things that you remember from your granny's kitchen etc. However it seemed to have had a lot of 'hands-on' experiences for children during the holidays. Not the cheapest place to go and if we had been staying in the area longer we probably would have bought a passport but we did get a full day out of it, though a few extra things had to be paid for separately. I would recommend this venue (and the classic pub across the road - All Nations Inn).
  • Lovely place full of history and things to do. They were very helpful when we lost our site passport. Highly recommended
  • Went to Enginuity, found that there were more smaller exhibits that the big ones they used to have. I have a 3 yr old who loved the older big exhibits more as they involved 'balls' and 'placing balls' somewhere, he was very dissappointed as the smaller ones involved being lifted up, at this age they love their independance.
