  • I visited the castle while in Inverness. The video at the start (recommended) was very informative about the history of the castle and also some of the local legends including the Loch Ness monster an...  more »
  • Although stunning from the outside, this castle has nothing to offer inside. Only three rooms, one is a video travelogue of Inverness and surrounding areas, the other two were cartoon like displays of...  more »
  • Small problem of booking or brief misunderstanding... super friendly server who found us a table to eat kitchen without great claim but correct (always good haggis however) with a quality / reasonable price. A downstairs with a part covered and heated terrace: ideal for a beer with in more views of the Castle.

  • The castle surroundings is a must stop visit to Inverness. It is situated in the heart of the city and has plenty of nice views. You can go up to the tower of the castle to have a 360 view of the city.
  • It's not a castle everybody exepcts. Nothing interesting to see or do. Inside there are some offices. It's only nice to walk around the walls to see the view of the town from a higher position
  • The castle of Macbeth. It is now a court. Public access is allowed on the palace grounds and to the north tower.
  • Just passed by it. It's beautiful architecture and its surroundings are lovely. Easy access.
  • It is council buildings and a court house on the site of a previous ancient castle of which I saw no remnants. There is a sign which indicates Castle views but in fact looks over Inverness town and the view is mostly ugly concrete 1960's 1970's buildings. The view from the other side of and across the River is much nicer. I think they put the sign up wrong.

Where to stay in Inverness

You’ll easily find bed and breakfasts and guesthouses convenient to the center of town in Inverness, from the cozy to more large-scale places, often with a view down to the River Ness, which later joins Loch Ness. For more affordable accommodation, look for a few budget hostels, as well as camping and caravan sites. If you've got a car, consider staying just outside the city in a quiet village, where you can explore the city by day and nature by evening. Since this is the largest city in the Highlands, you'll probably be able to find something last minute, but if you have a specific type of accommodtion in mind, it's a good idea to book in advance.
