  • It was nice to see it. They have court house there so we were not allowed to go inside. The view is breathtaking of the city of Inverness  more »
  • It's worth an hour or two to look around this castle. It's still an active court. Go to the top for the best views of Inverness. Very informative information film.  more »
  • this is easy to reach on the main street but it is a sheriff office and closed to the public so you can only see it from the outside - worth a quick look around as it is a nice building  more »

  • It is council buildings and a court house on the site of a previous ancient castle of which I saw no remnants. There is a sign which indicates Castle views but in fact looks over Inverness town and the view is mostly ugly concrete 1960's 1970's buildings. The view from the other side of and across the River is much nicer. I think they put the sign up wrong.
  • Went there only for a walk and found that there were doing a test for the new attraction and could get access. You can climb a tower with different rooms where you can watch some interesting videos about Scottish myths. At the end a wonderful view of the city waits!
  • Nice castle located in the middle of Inverness. Part of it has been turned to a court thus restricted to public. However, you are able to access a tower with rooftop view of the city for £5 each. Located beside Ness river. Good location for some photo taking.
  • Was here on working trip but it's a lovely view especially from top of the courthouse asI was fortunate to be asked to help to raise a flag to commemorate the Somme. The views from the very too are stunning and I am glad to be one of the very few who have stood up the top. The small spiral staircase is full of names scratched into brickwork from years ago.
  • Great views at the top but the rest of the experience was a little off. Lots of small rooms with animated short films that we're catching but otherwise left the experience feeling bare.

Where to stay in Inverness

You’ll easily find bed and breakfasts and guesthouses convenient to the center of town in Inverness, from the cozy to more large-scale places, often with a view down to the River Ness, which later joins Loch Ness. For more affordable accommodation, look for a few budget hostels, as well as camping and caravan sites. If you've got a car, consider staying just outside the city in a quiet village, where you can explore the city by day and nature by evening. Since this is the largest city in the Highlands, you'll probably be able to find something last minute, but if you have a specific type of accommodtion in mind, it's a good idea to book in advance.
