Art Gallery Shopping
A major reason for visiting Inverness, Castle Gallery displays contemporary and applied art from Scotland and around the world. The centrally located gallery occupies a building from the 18th century. Its constantly changing exhibits highlight modern developments in painting and sculpture, as well as the latest trends in handmade prints, ceramics, fine jewelry, and glassworks. The gallery remains devoted to showcasing both established artists and emerging talent, housing notable works by Natalie Aird, Blandine Anderson, and David Carter. Nearby you can also explore the grounds of the city's landmark castle. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Inverness holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Castle Gallery and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Where to stay in Inverness

You’ll easily find bed and breakfasts and guesthouses convenient to the center of town in Inverness, from the cozy to more large-scale places, often with a view down to the River Ness, which later joins Loch Ness. For more affordable accommodation, look for a few budget hostels, as well as camping and caravan sites. If you've got a car, consider staying just outside the city in a quiet village, where you can explore the city by day and nature by evening. Since this is the largest city in the Highlands, you'll probably be able to find something last minute, but if you have a specific type of accommodtion in mind, it's a good idea to book in advance.
