White Scar Cave, Ingleton

4.6
#2 of 10 in Nature in Yorkshire Dales National Park
A network of caves White Scar Cave features one of the longest-known cave chambers in Britain. You can even see helictites, cave formations that grow spirally, sideways, and every which way. In addition to touring this fascinating underground world, a cafe and a gift shop are also present. Stop by the visitor’s center to see a large-scale plan of the cave system, historic photographs, and material about nearby places of interest. Pay special attention if you are the last of the day to tour the caves. It is rumored a disembodied, murmuring voice follows the last guide out of the cave. • Had a fab tour of the caves. Great guide Tom, who made the tour interesting and informative! Yes it's wet and cold but not too bad! Amazed at what is underneath our countryside! There are low walks at...  more »
  • It may be the longest show caves in the UK, and has a few interesting features but the tour itself was quite tedious at times. The viewing platforms etc became overcrowded so it wasn't always clear wh...  more »
  • Well worth the visit, a very knowledgable guide. Great views in the cave. A delay in going on the tour as the water was high after a great deal of rain. Suggest phoning ahead to check whether they are...  more »

  • These caves are excellent to see. Very interesting history & they are as natural as you can get. You need good boots & warm clothing & you are given a hard hat to wear before going in. A guide takes you round. It is suitable for children but parents do need to look after them some of the ceilings are very low & if you are tall a lot of bending is needed to walk in places. There is a sign on the board outside warning anyone with a disability as there are about 95 steps inside too. Well worth seeing though if you like caves.
  • Great place to visit and worth the ticket price for a 80 minute guided tour. We went on a morning after a night of rain. It was late in opening due the the water levels, but when we go it, it was great to see the cave, underground waterfall, and rush of water as you walk above on a walkway.
  • What fun! Walking above (on metal grid) the rushing water gave a real sense of the power and volume of the underground waters. Thrilling.
  • Great to see, wear something waterproof youre gonna get wet. Put sensible shoes on. There is over 92 steps to climb but well worth experience.
  • A beautiful cave system with a guided tour. Nice food at the cafe all set in a wonderful landscape.
