White Scar Cave, Ingleton

Must see · Cave · Nature / Park
A network of caves White Scar Cave features one of the longest-known cave chambers in Britain. You can even see helictites, cave formations that grow spirally, sideways, and every which way. In addition to touring this fascinating underground world, a cafe and a gift shop are also present. Stop by the visitor’s center to see a large-scale plan of the cave system, historic photographs, and material about nearby places of interest. Pay special attention if you are the last of the day to tour the caves. It is rumored a disembodied, murmuring voice follows the last guide out of the cave. • I took my daughter to a cave tour - small groups of 12 allow for some reasonable social distancing and masks are worn by everyone. The tour was brilliant- we had the lovely Tim who was happy to...  more »

  • Amazing place.. the stalagmites and stalactites formation in the cave that have been there for thousands / if not millions of years. We have actually seen a coral fossil which proves that England was indeed a tropical country million of years ago. The facility is quite good as well, good cafeteria and very clean modern toilets which I did not expect at all.. as it says cavewoman toilet... 😂
  • Absolutely amazing. The walk through takes around 80 minutes and is incredible. Take a jacket or jumper because it is quite chilly. Also some areas are very low so if you have back/knee issues please note that you will have to bend or crouch to get under some overhangs.
  • Amazing place to visit, absolutely breathtaking to see the caverns inside, seeing the interesting formations in the rocks caused by calcification, the tour takes you quite deep into the hillside initially through a man-made entrance cave but quickly entering a natural cave system with some absolutely massive caverns. Tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, clearly passionate about this stunning place. Very few places like it in the UK so highly recommend visiting, though be aware you will have to stoop in parts due to low ceiling heights!
  • Expensive £10.75 in 2019 for adult, bit less for children, but... Really interesting and fascinating tour with amazing unique features throughout. It's a half mile walk followed by quite a few steps at the end to get to the main cavern, but well worth it! Hand rails on the steps and other awkward areas make it suitable for most. Saw young and old in there managing fine when we were there.
  • The knowledge of the tour guides on the history of the cave is excellent and very detailed. It is very good after some rain as it makes the waterfalls even bigger. I will definitely go again.
