Fleet Air Arm Museum devotes itself to the history of British naval aviation. The museum displays an extensive collection of military and civilian aircraft, engines, model aircraft, and paintings and drawings of aircraft. Located on the Yeovilton airfield, the museum simulates the experience of being on an aircraft carrier, and you can watch military aircraft take off and land. The site holds four large halls featuring numerous planes, from those of the early days of aeronautical experimentation to World War II fighter planes, including a kamikaze exhibit. Don't miss the museum's highlight--the Concorde 002 located in hall four. Fleet Air Arm Museum reviews
An excellent museum. The layout is incredibly well-done, with plenty of aircraft and exhibits for the enthusiast, but also plenty of supplementary information around for people who are not as... more »
We booked to visit here to break up journey from Exeter area to Yorkshire. After previous visits to Cosford and Hendon we found Fleet Air a bit smaller for the entrance price (£19 each). Saying... more »
Great visit especially superb for a rainy day as mainly indoors. The museum has 4 Halls each with planes and helicopters from the beginning of powered flight right up to today. Hall 3 is wonderful... more »
A great museum if you are interested in navy aircraft. Lot of thought was put into the displays. There is a simulation of the helicopter was a great experience. It was excellent having a chance to go inside Concorde! If you’re in the area you definitely need to consider a visit! Cafe on site serves hot/cold meals and drinks. Play area available for younger children to have outdoor fun.
I always said one day I would revisit this Museum and finally I have, about 40 years after my first visit! Took my Daughter and her partner and we had a great time. Really interesting and fun. Starting to show it's age, but even so well worth a day out. Loved Concorde, and the Aircraft carrier experience too. Very friendly staff, well worth it.
Great place for young and old ... If they like planes and helicopters. It is big enough for a 3-4 hour visit yet not so big that it is overwhelming. I particularly enjoyed seeing the first British Concorde. Some of the planes are shown part restored. There are lots of helpful volunteers who can explain more about the exhibits. Tip: it is cheaper to buy tickets in advance online.
Good but attention to detail required. We took a self catering picnic but wanted to buy drinks. The dispenser inside was out of order so had to walk outside to the restaurant where there were huge queues so a long wait just for 2 purchases - more tills required. Eventually took the drinks back inside to be told No sugary drinks to be consumed - great! A water fountain would be a good alternative to single use plastic bottles. Not enough access to static aircraft - if they're redundant please allow us to get more hands on especially for children as there's not much fun looking at aircraft from behind a cordon. On the plus side the aircraft carrier display was stunning and gave a very realistic demonstration of what goes on. Overall a good day out and the tickets are valid for 12 months so we'll probably return.
Well worth a visit. Make sure you leave enough time as this is definitely a film days trip. Exhibition halls are split into different eras of flight culminating in the Carrier experience. This hall is brilliantly designed to be an Aircraft Carrier during the 80’s with deck, planes and Conning Tower.
