  • Very good place to visit just near hotel , we had complementary tickets as part of our booking which was a lovely bonus .
  • The bird of prey centre claims to be York's no1 attraction. Maybe in time it will be, but it's no where near it yet. When we were there signage was missing, play parks broken and the whole place looke...  read more »

  • We arrived for the place opening at 10.30, which was a huge mistake. It seemed they were still trying to get set up, and were left wondering for a good 40 minutes. It was nice to walk round and see the birds but due to storm damage the information signs had been removed so we had no idea what we were looking at. I still feel these could have been temporarily replaced by some laminated paper signs until they could be permanently replaced. I was seriously on the verge of leaving when a staff member got an owl out to talk about and hold. This was great. After that we attended the medieval talk which discussed how the birds were used years ago. This was not only really informational but very entertaining too. Even my young children sat still and listened! The main bird show was then held a couple of hours later, which we filled a bit with a sandwich and a coffee from the very reasonably priced cafe. After the bird show we were given the opportunity to hold a golden eagle, which was truly an unforgettable experience. All in all after a slow start we had a very good day, which was mainly because of the enthusiasm and passion of the owner. It would have been better if the informational signs were there, even if just temporarily mocked up. I also feel the timetable was very strung out, and could benefit from having a morning timetable and repeat it again in the afternoon. In the meantime if you are planning a family day out do not hesitate to go here, but I would advise that you aim to arrive at around 11.15 to get the best start to your day.
  • Great value for money. Lots of owls and birds of prey. You even get to handle some of the birds all thrown in with entrance fee. Well worth a visit!
  • Went here August 17th 2015 as a family of two 16 year old girls and 14 year old son. We arrived part int the day around 1pm, and there are 2 flying displays in the afternoon with diff. birds. It is a small scale operation, but wow, so much better for it. It really is ''hands on'', without having to shell out lots extra the kids got to fly birds of prey in the field adjacent to the cage side, hand feed a pair of red deer. I would rec. this place to anyone with kids from toddlers to teens, or just people who like birds and/or photography. The guy who runs this place has a sense of humour second to none, and the people who volunteer and work here are so friendy and knowledgeable. You can pay extra for ''hawk walks'' etc, but as a first visit there was more than enough for us. Thy are still building on and making this place bigger and better but it's a great value day out and we had 5 hours of smiles and fun, and even the small cafe there was v reasonable priced. thanks for a great day out, we will be back ! I would rec. going on a fair weather day to get the most from your time there.
  • Small but perfectly formed. Very informative, entertaining and friendly group of (mainly volunteer) staff. They seemed to love their jobs, and passed this love and enthusiasm onto visitors. Really packed a lot into the day, although it is a fairly small sight, we weren't bored at all during the time we were there. Very enjoyable for the whole family
  • Fabulous day out and the staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you
