There has been some amazing restoration work done here - it is still on going. Fascinating history of a spectacular house. Nice tea rooms & gift shop. Do not miss the walk along the cliffs towards Ste... read more »
Some parts of this building are great, however it still needs more work to restore it. Staff for this corporate event were very accommodating and flexible.
On holiday in Bournemouth, hired a car for the day to see what was nearby. Saw Highcliffe Castle when I googled Christchurch and decided to give it a go. The surrounding garden/ woodland/ cliff top (f... read more »
Once the family home of the Rothesays and the Selfridges, this fake castle built from bits if other buildings lay derelict for many years before being rescued and restored. It is a wonderful place full of odd sections of French chateaux, old abbeys and has beautiful gardens that stretch into a clifftop nature reserve and the beach at Highcliffe. Good tea rooms open most days and even when the castle is closed. Often they have half term activities and wedding fairs
Trupiarnia dla emerytów. Nawet w kiblu wzorki dla 80cio latków. Nie wiadomo czy nawet można było wejść do środka bo grupa nawiedzonych malowała obrazy. Omijać to miejsce można se w łeb strzelić z nudów.
A regular spot for nice beach walks, via the zig zag path. We've never gone into the cattle, but it's impressive from the outside. The tea rooms are decent enough, plenty of seating inside and out and a good selection of cakes. Note that parking is very limited, so in the summer get there early, or plan to go towards the end of the day. On the upside, parking is free in winter.
Fantastic place! We did the guided tour of the building yesterday and were there for two hours! The cellers and old kitchens were facinating. I'm a builder and loved all the behind the scene stuff. You can see the bare bones of the building and read how it was built. Tour guide was great too!
To begin with, the parking is a joke. Far too few spaces and we ended up parking at the recommended 'Highcliffe Cliff top' car park. This turned out to be a 30-35 min walk from the Castle, so if you are elderly or have small children, be aware. When you arrive at the Castle you are met with poorly kept grounds and very dry/dying grass due to lack of any water from the staff during a dry summer. When we made our way in to reception we were greeted by friendly staff who advised us that we would be charged a reduced rate due to a wedding. We didn't realise at the time, that it meant we would only see 2 of the 4 available rooms. Most of the Castle was dedicated to either Mr Selfridge, or the fire that took place and council putting up a fence to protect it while the sourced funds to part-repair it. Sadly, the most enjoyable part of our trip to Highcliffe was the walk along the seafront to get there.
