Hiking Trail · Scenic Walking Area
Visit the most popular tourist attraction in Northern England, Walltown Crags - Hadrian's Wall. The wall was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. In 2005, it became part of the transnational "Frontiers of the Roman Empire" World Heritage Site. Learn the history at the archaeological sites and museums along the wall, take in the dramatic views, and examine forts, mile-castles, and temples. Don’t miss the solitary tree featured in the film “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” or Wylam, the birthplace of pioneering railway engineer and inventor George Stephenson. Explore by foot or bike, but take care with the fragile landscape (walkers are asked to follow the path during summer months). • No better place for a brisk Sunday walk along Hadrian’s wall. Easy pay and display car park, well signposted tracks and the most spectacular views.  more »
  • Good picnic site with public toilets. Due to the Covid situation, the cafe is only open certain days - but the opening hours information is given on their website. Good for short walks  more »
  • I visited with my husband. We had a lovely walk, since we lucked out on the weather. it was interesting to try and read the landscape and imagine what it was like for the Romans.  more »

  • Fantastic place to see the wall, beautiful scenery. There is a tiny area with free parking down a single track road, then a footpath across a field and up a steep hill, it's worth it though
  • This was a lovely walk, we had nice weather. Saw a great section of the wall.
  • The history behind this wall combined with the awesome views makes it a must see.
  • Lovely spot to see Hadrian's Wall. You have to drive down a single track road but there is parking by the actual wall section although you have to walk up a hill amongst the sheep to get to it but it's only a couple of minutes to get to the top and is worth it. Such a lovely view from the top and would recommend it. No toilets or anything there but there are some in a car park further up the road before you turn into the single track. We were there during 40+ mph winds so it was cold and windy but we still enjoyed it. Our boy enjoyed climbing on the wall.
  • Amazing views, amazing feat of engineering.
