  • This was such a pleasant surprise. I get in English Heritage sites for free through work and went in on a whim for the freebie. I would have happily paid. The ruins are excellent. So much history. You...  more »

  • Really enjoyed the walk and surrounds of this castle on a hot day. Great for photographers.
  • Another impressive and beautiful ruin, lots of artifacts to see, lots to explore with plenty of places for picnics and a nice walk along the high banking around the castle. Bought myself a bottle of wassail 😉 so all that's left to shout is " WASSAIL " !
  • A really great castle with significant amounts to see and do. Gift shop, extensive ruins, mini museum. Well worth a visit. Parking next door.
  • A great place to explore. The castle and grounds are really only half a days entertainment for younger kids. The grounds are well kept and access is good although it's mostly grass so you need decent footwear if wet. There is only one building which is covered that has a good selection of exhibits and artifacts. The gift shop has some great themed toys for children (and adults!, the toy catapult is a lot of fun) Very reasonable entry price too.
  • Went on a cold September morning and had the place to ourself. Great to combine with riveaulx Abbey if you have a full day. Really impressive relic that gives a great glimpse of 1500s life. Loved our visit. Better than castle Howard.
