Located in the spectacular Sussex countryside, Wakehurst is part of the famous Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew. As you explore, you will find a 16th-century house with an attached garden. Take some time to learn about the native and exotic temperate trees and shrubs that grow in the woodlands. Popular attractions include the Himalayan Glade, Millennium seed bank, and Water Gardens. • I love this place, the gardens are beautiful. The staff are always friendly and helpful. As a wheelchair user I find the grounds good for accessibility and they are doing work this winter to improve the paths. They have a couple of nice tearooms and a gift shop. There are also toilets at each tearoom. They have special sessions and this year I went to the Glow Wild which was a magical evening.
  • Love this place! We live nearby and I visit Wakehurst quite regularly with my 2-year old daughter. She loves the kids’ garden with the mud kitchen, and mummy loves the cafe that always has a great selection of gluten and dairy free cakes. :) Lovely walks of various lengths, a lot of them accessible with a buggy as well.
  • The seed bank is fascinating, and the guided tour of the gardens very informative, and worth a visit. At rhododendron time it must be stunning. Disappointingly, there's nowhere to eat your picnic if it is raining. We were not allowed to eat it in the cafe. Having brought a birthday picnic, we had to eat it squashed in the car. 😢
  • Lovely garden and house. Nice for a walk around on a sunny day. Unfortunately parking is not even free for National Trust members. But it is still worth visiting at least once. There is a good restaurant/cafe on site also.
  • Beautiful house and gardens with long walks around the estate which is hilly and can be very muddy. Only the ground floor of the house is open and has exhibitions from time to time. Gardens are superb with many different types of specimen plants and trees and there is the national seed bank centre to visit in the grounds. Large shop and cafe at the entrance and a restaurant next to the house. Big car park but you have to pay unless you are a Royal Botanic Gardens member. Entrance free for RBG and National Trust members.
