  • As a recent guest at this accommodation, I really don't know where to begin with in terms of satisfaction. I had stayed at this place for nearly a week and a half as I was working at the Commonwealth Games 2014, and I had long hours to work every single day. This meant I would expect myself to come back to my "hostel" with the intention of resting. However, facilities that were provided was absolutely atrocious, they had a commercial canteen though the manager didn't even have the courtesy to open until the very last day of my stay and that too because apparently they had an event due to take place the next morning. There were approximately 70 people living there in small cubicles where they didn't even have locks from outside so that guests like myself can secure out valuable items. This was just one of the common issues, the main problem was Infact they didn't actually provide any water facility for guests like myself and others to use which I believe is a common need for any human being. Another Heath and Safety problem was the fact that there was a bee nest just above the front entrance door, though luckily my room was deep inside which means it wasn't a concern for my but I really do feel sorry for the guests who had to sleep at the front end of the property as they would fear just to even open their windows so that there is a little ventilation. But the main issue that I thought was the fact that the manager would show this rude attitude towards us when few of us including myself complained and she would speak to us like we were the enemies. More worryingly, there was this particular incident when one of my colleague who was from Liverpool complained to the cleaner about the lack of water supply, as a response the cleaner actually replied back saying "why don't you go back to Liverpool, if you think this place is bad". There were several other issues that nobody took consideration of however, these were the serious ones!
  • This review is from the firsthand experience of a security officer working for the Commonwealth Games in Galsgow 2014. Please take the time to read before considering departing with your hard earned money for the slumdog experience. The premises manager would wake us up with the sound of her taking her horses for the only bit of exercise they would recieve for god knows how long. I found it pointless of setting an alarm as the crack of the whip abruptly woke me up from my sleep. I then woke up daily to this ridiculous regime only to shower. Which is my way of forcing a start to my day. The shower was really nice, warm and great pressure. After exiting the shower I realised that my towel is laying in a cold pool of stagnant shower water from other people within the premises. It was only then I noticed the towel hanger was held up by a cheap screw affixed into cheap plasterboard. The shower system does not let water out, there is no drainage system and this became a daily problem so throughout my stay I had countless words with the premises manager. But that sorted nothing. Upon my first night I realised the basins were filthy, this was accumulated filth. Not just your general usage dirt. I took it upon myself to get bleach wipes to use before I used it on a daily basis. I got hungry after working at the Commonwealth Games and then I realised that the canteen was not open for every single day I was there until the last day. And that's when I realised the cleaning that took place. It was because there was an event taking place later during that day. I felt alienated from the service provider in such a way that I wanted a full refund. And I thought this would be the last problem, there was more in store for me. There was a water cooler. This is the only source of drinking water as the tap in the break room does not display the appropriate 'drinking water' signage. So we relied on this one drinking water source and it then broke 5 days before my departure. In a normal situation the premises manager would make sure that their clients are looked after. And water is a basic human right. But in this situation after mentioning this unfortunate problem I had to take cab to Sainsbury to purchase water to survive. Even on the last day I found that this problem was not sorted. Unfortunately this is the first time I come to Scotland. And this experience have scarred me profoundly. Also the audacity of the person which awarded this establishment with 3 stars, I think he forgot his minus.
  • As far as expectations go, its best you drop any you have. I'll start with the basic necessities any accommodation should have. Cleanliness - None. The common room looked as though it hadn't been hovered in quite a while, The tables in that room needed a good scrub and a section of the carpet was what I can only describe as... Chewed. by what? I'll leave that too your imagination. On to the bedrooms. Not once while I stayed were the sheets, duvet cover or pillow case changed. Not once while I stayed was my room cleaned in any manner, whatsoever. The "kitchen". The kitchen had flies buzzing round from day one.. Need I say more? Showers and Toilets. The shower floor was flooded constantly and the toilets were despicable. The smell and state of the toilets on the few occasions i used them was attrocious. Customer service - If only.. The rudeness of staff and the manager was appaling. Not only would they not listen to justified complaints of the people staying there, They would not perform tasks such as regular maintence or cleaning when rightly requested. The manager and staff rarely visited our part of the building and when they did, they would ignore and even have the audacity to complain about the customers wishing to speak to them. Appliances - A dirty microwave, a regualr size fridge (with a very small freezer built in) and a kettle. Between more than 5 people, this becomes a problem. For us, it became a problem. They have a real kitchen which you cannot access and which was not open for service until the day of our departure. The food that is prepared in that kitchen isnt of great quality and is frankly overpriced for what it is. They have a washing machine which they charge you to use, and a tumble dryer which they charge you to use (which honestly doesnt even work properly as my clothes came out still soaked). Oh, and they also have a iron, which i did not have the pleasure of using. Safety - There were no locks on the outside of bedroom cubicle doors (yes, you will be sleeping in a cubicle). They had a lockable wardrobe inside but it was very small, both height and width wise. There was a wasp's nest above the laundry room which was not removed until a day or two before our departure, This was a problem for some people as you could imagine. The bathroom and toilets were not kept in a sanitary condition. Overall - I would never stay again and would go out of my way to let others know to avoid it. It really was that bad.
  • It was a private function so it was pretty good.
