Trip Planner: Europe / UK / England / Kent / Royal Tunbridge Wells / Groombridge / Parks / Groombridge Place Gardens
Visit manicured gardens, woodland walkways, and a variety of animals at Groombridge Place Gardens. Wander through five separate gardens among tulips, Japanese maples, ancient yew trees, cherry trees, azaleas, and 20 varieties and shades of white roses. View a flight show at the birds of prey flight center. Look out for the peacocks, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, piglets, alpacas, reindeer, and the zeedonk (half zebra, half donkey), which inhabit the grounds. Take a canal boat ride or walk to the Enchanted Forest, landscaped with fairy-tale and myth-inspired gardens. Swing on giant swings and climb a tree house for a view over the canal and countryside. At Groms' Village, small children can play among the small houses built for the mythical woodland folk, who are said to live in the Enchanted Forest. We used to go to Groombridge a lot as children and I recently returned here with my siblings and brother in laws for my sisters 30th birthday. Much was as we remembered it being, the gardens are beaut... more »
Fabulous grounds and location with such potential to be a jewell of the South East and a real money spinner but let down by poor management and a lack of staff and imagination. We sat with over 100 ex... more »
Walked there from the quaint little steam railway that runs from TWells. Only 5 mins stroll away. Beautiful grounds, lovely cafe, clean loos. Lots for children to do but enjoyable for adults too. more »
Feb 2007 we had a really lovely day. There was lots going on, the entertainment was just that, the enchanted forest contained much intrigue, the boat ride was most enjoyable. Yes, the toilets could do with a bit of a refresh and the restaurant needs a rethink but it was adequate and served our needs. They missed a trick not serving Ice cream today but probably didn't anticipate any demand in the middle of winter! If you want National Trust then visit a NT but I personally found this to be far more entertaining and the children were fully occupied for the whole day.
A truly great day out. All ages are welcome. The enchanted forest is particularly suited for young children and teenagers alike. Can't wait to go back this year. My family and I have been visiting for more than 10 years and it is still a brilliant day out.
Nice forest walk, nice boat ride. £40 for entrance inc boat ride fir family if four? Food was ok. Raptor display was nice. Just overpriced for what it was? Probably wouldn't go again.
Went to the Easter hunt today with my 2 children and felt totally ripped off. The entrance fees are high. The cafe food is terrible eg fatty hot dogs & sausage rolls - the salad was limp & brown. The entertainment is sporadic. Everything is extra money -the ferry, the bouncy castle £3 per child. Groombridge Place has the worst Birds of Prey show in Kent - we've been to all of them - expect shouty and uninspiring. The Easter hunt was difficult because one of the fairies had fallen out of sight in the pond. Then at the end of their search efforts my sons were awarded with... wait for it ...(drum roll)....one fruit pastel each.
Visited here in September following recommendation from a friend, but will not be going back. Ever. I wish now that I had read the other recent reviews before going as they all sum things up pretty well. The "enchanted forest" looks tired, and a number of the other "attractions" were either closed or out of order. Had we been notified before paying and/or been offered reduced price entry then fair enough but at £46 for the four of us we expected much, much more! My advice - don't bother!!!
