  • Myself and my now husband got married here in mid October. The blacksmith we had on the day was fantastic, and the museum was interesting to wander around.
  • It was a wonderful day the staff were very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere and historical aspects of the venue made it all the more special.
  • I must have driven past Gretna Green a hundred times, but never felt like dropping in to see something so tacky. But on this journey one of our party recommended the museum, so we turned off the motor...  more »

  • Gretna was of course the first place over the border young lovers could escape English law and get married. It is now many a stopping point for those going further north but it has good facilities. Toilets are free. Plenty of things to buy. Nice restaurant. You can even get married here should you so wish (As many seem to do even today).
  • Great stop of point... Absolutely better than a services, and a ludicrously comprehensive choice of souvenirs if you've forgotten anything for anyone (seriously, I challenge anyone to find the most obscure Scottish souvenir in any of the shops!). The cafe is a bit industrial but I imagine that is a great thing when you are 512th in a queue of thirsty coach trippers waiting for your tea. Piper in the courtyard sets the scene perfectly.
  • Bit of a tourist trap but has developed tremendously since I last visited as a boy four decades ago. Great photo ops and a couple of free things to do like the Maze. Probably changed a good deal more since my Great Granny got married there in the late 19th Century.
  • A great little place with good service and a little area to walk or sit outside. There are shops also within the vicinity
  • Love stopping here to do a little shopping and of course the best whiskey shop where you can sample any of the whiskey you want to buy
