Time and Tide Museum, Great Yarmouth

4.7
#1 of 14 in Museums in Great Yarmouth
Time and Tide Museum is centered around Great Yarmouth's rich maritime and fishing heritage, mainly focusing on the history of Yarmouth and the herring curing works. As Norfolk's third largest museum, there is something for everyone here. The museum offers various exhibitions, including a typical row, a type of narrow street from 1913. There is also a Yarmouth fishing wharf from the 1950s as well as hands-on displays, films, audio guides, and children's activities. You can even take the wheel of a steam drifter. When you need rest, relax in the spacious courtyard beneath a canopy of sails, surrounded by historic fishing boats. • Not being particularly interested in boats or fishing, I thought this might be a dull place to visit. But as we had a Spree voucher I thought we'd check it out. I was actually blown away by how well kept and organised the museum is and how interesting the exhibits were. There was a great atmosphere in the old street mock up, along with life-like mannequins, lots of interesting relics, audio/video displays and a real sense of what it must have been like to work in the smoke houses back in the day. Along with the friendly staff, reasonable entry price and a lovely coffee shop cafe I make this museum a great place to visit.
  • Extremely well organized and engaging for our children. We'll be back. Thank you.
