Witley Court & Gardens, Great Witley

4.7
#1 of 7 in Historic Sites in Malvern Hills
A massive fire in 1937 destroyed Witley Court & Gardens, once one of the largest houses of England. The interior of the house was completely ruined, leaving only a shell of the palatial structure. To contrast the ruins of the mansion, take a walk through the well-maintained gardens. Pause to admire the fountains that still work like they did in the 1800s, and use the audio guide. Visit the small, attached church where Handel once played to see some baroque frescoes. For a break, play in the treehouse and run across the rope bridge at the Wilderness Play Area. We came on Sunday for my dads birthday - I had to talk him into coming here and he is so glad I did! We had a wonderful day and the gardens are lovely - especially the formal garden with the fountain....  more »

Would not visit England without stopping by Witley Court and Gardens. This was our 4th visit since 1994 and the continued restoration has been evident on each visit. The restored Perseus and Andromeda...  more »

  • Beautiful site, good gift shop. Membership recommended as this is a much better option than paying for every visit. A pity one or two of the rooms can't be restored, but well worth a visit. The fountain is spectacular.
  • Beautiful Historic Buildings very grand even though much of the interiors were destroyed by fire. The Perseus and Andromeda fountain is amazing to watch and beautiful stone sculptures. Great Tea Rooms serving lunches afternoon teas and much more outdoor sitting area to. The beautiful Church and the grounds and setting are just stunning.
  • Lovely sweeping gardens around what would have been a grand house in its day. Although a shell since the fire still a fascinating place to visit. The restored fountain goes on at the hour and worth planning your visit to see it in action.
  • Great on so many levels. Great walks Great scenery Great ruins and educational. Use there audio tool to get the most out of your visit. Walk to the church and use their tea rooms. Oh and yes brilliant fountain.
  • Absolutely love this place! We've been for a day trip a few times. The last time though the fountain didn't work the whole day, which was disappointing as it's a way to go. Saying that, we still had a lovely day wandering around the grounds. The park areas are brilliant.
