Once an abandoned prison, Mont Orgueil Castle overlooks the harbor of Gorey and for 600 years protected Jersey against French invasion. Delve into the history, picture the various royal ceremonies that have taken place there, and explore the network of staircases, towers and rooms. Go further and discover hidden artwork, climb the turrets to find the medieval ‘wheel of urine’ and be sure to check out the 'witchcraft' exhibit in the cellar. Take advantage of the free walking guides and a 15% discount for groups of 6 or more adults when booked in advance. Another exceptional must see place on the island of Jersey. Not good for the elderly as there are many steps to climb and some of the stairways are narrow and uneven. Lots of interesting stories about the castle. Access to pretty much all areas. Fantastic views from the top tower. Spent a good few hours here exploring all the nooks and crannies. Well worth the entrance fee.
Great castle with hidden rooms and staircases which makes the place feel less of an exhibit and more like you're going back in time. Family friendly with kids activities, the castle is great for all ages. Advanced warning - There are lots of steep hills and steps
Excellent place to visit and spend 3 or so hours. Guide was very helpful and the views great. Lots to see and easy to get lost. Recommended
Wonderful relaxing place. Tremendous views across the bay . Plenty places to dine. So relaxing and a great place to catch the sun
Brilliant views. So many steps but worth it. Very interesting. Great for photos
