Godshill Model Village, Godshill

#1 of 7 in Things to do in Godshill
Landmark Tourist Spot
Godshill Model Village is home to three sequentially smaller scale village models of itself. The actual village is home to almost 1,500 people. There visit the parish church where you'll see a medieval mural of a Lily crucifix and William Morris' stained-glass windows. Refresh yourself at Griffin Pub and make your way through the Griffin-shaped maze. The first scale model of the actual village is one-tenth the its size and houses a second model of itself, and a third model rests inside that: this is the smallest of all. This last oddity requires careful investigation to appreciate its detailed craftsmanship. • Been coming here since I was a child. My boys now love coming too! Loads to see, and a quiz to do on the way round. Little ice cream stall at the end which is nice. Exit through a shop which sells all...  more »

  • A huge and beautifully kept long standing attraction. Tended by dedicated staff who really take care of the trees and plants. The combination of buildings, model trains and fantastic plants and trees ensures something for all ages, with a cafe and gift shop along the way. Add to this the lovely village setting and other great local independent shops including a chocolate factory, and you have a perfect 1/2 to full day out with the family.
  • I loved this way more than I expected or should given my advanced age, but the detail and passion and scale of the models completely won me over. Some great bits of humour to observe in the 'residents' activities. In addition there is quite a lot else in the village, with numerous tea shops in good gardens and the Mill to visit as well.
  • I loved this place - it was fantastic. A really great site to visit - only stayed for an hour but had a great time and although it was busy we never felt uncomfortable. The dinosaurs on the railway were a real highlight. Go to see for sure.
  • Well worth a visit. Clean and well layed out. Good access for most abilities but is on a slight hill.
  • Amazing! Called on on the off-chance. Not expecting anything like what we saw today. I particularly was taken back by the 'model within a model ' concept. So cleverly done. Will be back!! 😀
