Godshill Model Village, Godshill

#1 of 9 in Things to do in Godshill
Godshill Model Village is home to three sequentially smaller scale village models of itself. The actual village is home to almost 1,500 people. There visit the parish church where you'll see a medieval mural of a Lily crucifix and William Morris' stained-glass windows. Refresh yourself at Griffin Pub and make your way through the Griffin-shaped maze. The first scale model of the actual village is one-tenth the its size and houses a second model of itself, and a third model rests inside that: this is the smallest of all. This last oddity requires careful investigation to appreciate its detailed craftsmanship. • Interesting model village of the village it is in. Great detail and some funny figures lurking around the village if you look closely. Nice little quiz to keep children amused  more »

  • My daughter (2 1/2) and I have visited twice now and she loves it. It's slightly surreal seeing your home town in miniature! The model village is beautifully detailed and well maintained. There is a train track, which my small one can stand and watch for ages- much to my annoyance as I couldn't wait to see what new miniature wonders were just around the corner. Fortunately you can go round and round again and the ticket price even includes a free return visit (can't remember if the return is for the next week only, so check that out) which was great as it was all my daughter talked about for the next few days! -And it's very reasonably priced to start with. There are some really cute little details, like the model village inside the model village inside the model village (seriously!) and some strange cargo on one of the train carriages, so keep your eyes peeled! I highly recommend checking this super cute place out!
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the model village, you can see that there is an awful lot of work that goes into looking after the attraction. Everywhere is clean and tidy the buildings all very good and whoever designs and places the 'people' has a good sense of humour, we found some of them quite funny. Well worth a visit.
  • This model village is really excellent with some very realistic isle of Wight buildings, streets and locations. Look out for all the real trees and shrubs which have been kept miniaturised to create realistic natural settings for the models. Even if you're not interested in the models the extensive garden alone is wonderful and peaceful for anyone to enjoy. Refreshments are available with tables and chairs in the garden but these are not undercover. However, there are rain shelters around the garden in case of showers. This attraction is suitable for people of all ages and has a free 'find the hidden red squirrels' quest for everyone to do during your visit, no pen or paper required! If you haven't been to this attraction before, then I would really recommend you give it a go because it is a really nice unexpected little surprise.
  • Great little place to visit with the family and well priced. A family ticket for 2 adults with 2/3 children is only £16. The village itself is very well maintained and a good size. It probably takes about an hour to get around and there are activity sheets for children to do, with places and hidden items to look out for. Has a decent gift shop at the end which is very cheap compared to most places. Would recommend it for a family. Plenty of good places to go to eat nearby too.
  • Lovely model village lots of love and effort in maintaining it. Friendly people. Much better value than the one in Beaconsfield. 8yo loved it 5yo bored stupid. You need very good eyesight to complete the challenge and even better to find the squirrels. Would I go again? Yes probably, not too often and not with a 5 yo or at least not this one.
