Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucester

(2,200+ reviews on the web)
Religious Site
A filming location for three Harry Potter films, Gloucester Cathedral is also one of England's most attractive cathedrals. Its foundation dates back to the establishment of an abbey here in the seventh century. Today you'll find a fine example of Gothic architecture. Take a guided tour to learn about the cathedral's intricate details, such as the Norman roof from the Early English period and the medieval glass in the east window. For views over the whole complex and out into Gloucester, walk the 269 steps to the top of the tower. The cathedral's renowned choir performs regularly, so check its schedule to hear a concert. You can also attend a religious service here. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Gloucester Cathedral by using our Gloucester trip itinerary builder.

  • We got to visit the Cathedral and we find that you are having works in what was a parking lot, which when finished will be great but now a bit lackluster... On the outside, it's beautiful, and to enter it does not disappoint, it is huge and very nice. We are looking for the entrance to the tower because we knew that you can upload and see the sights, but at the end we had that question, and it is that only you can climb with guide and only at 2:30 every day... that does not say it in your website! Go down! Left us with a bad taste in your mouth because at any moment they advertise this issue and it was something that we wanted to visit.

  • First popped in when tidying up after Three Choirs but when I came to the Sunday Eucharist led by the choir from Oslo it was magical. Very good singing, balance between choir and organ very good. Very conscious of the history of the place as I went forward for Communion. A real highlight was being introduced to the tune Griffin's Brook for the first time. It is named after the stream that floes through the Bourneville estate in Birmingham.
  • A beautiful cathedral. Most things you can see and do there are free. The guides there are really nice and always willing to answer all your questions and tell you everything about the cathedral.
  • Awesome place to visit. Harry potter was shot here. Missing a lot😘
  • You cannot miss this visit. One of the most beautiful cathedral in the world. Above all It's free. Park the car at gloucester docks. It's five minutes away.
