Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 2,000+ reviews on the web
A filming location for three Harry Potter films, Gloucester Cathedral is also one of England's most attractive cathedrals. Its foundation dates back to the establishment of an abbey here in the seventh century. Today you'll find a fine example of Gothic architecture. Take a guided tour to learn about the cathedral's intricate details, such as the Norman roof from the Early English period and the medieval glass in the east window. For views over the whole complex and out into Gloucester, walk the 269 steps to the top of the tower. The cathedral's renowned choir performs regularly, so check its schedule to hear a concert. You can also attend a religious service here. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Gloucester Cathedral by using our Gloucester trip itinerary builder.

  • The Cathedral is an amazing place, stunning architecture, tranquil and majestic, so many different things to see and great for photography.
  • This cathedral has really surprised me positively. I would get married in a place like that! Amazing details everywhere you look around and it feels like being in a Harry Potter movie.
  • I go to this amazing Glorious Gloucester and I learn it on my school and my dad takes a picture of me in the garden. I see a educational signs. Like school, eh?
  • Beautiful cathedral, a great piece of British history, yet unfortunately seems to be home to dozens of drug addicts and alcoholics, you'll struggle to reach the entrance without having your nostrils filled with the pungent smell of cannabis.
  • Beautiful cathedral well worth going out of your way for. Suggested £5 donation per visit, need to purchase a £3 photo permit if you wish to take pictures. Even if your're not religious the history of the building and some of the people interred there is fascinating. Keep an eye out for the graffitti left inside the building by 18th century choirboys (its not hard to spot).
  • A wonderful City Cathedral, very inspiring history. The witch shop along the street towards the entrance of the Cathedral is quite a redicule. An experience worthy the time.
  • Very old cathedral. It was opened in 1499, which is bit old year. Who next? Someone made Gloucester Cathedral! Who the builder of this Cathedral? The thing is, you can travel around the Cathedral!
