Where to stay in Glasgow

Glasgow's revitalized city center offers outstanding accommodations--along with some of the finest shopping outside London. Considered one of the finest Victorian cities in Britain, Glasgow is renowned for its centrally located hotels. Spacious rooms overlook the historical city center, and award-winning restaurants and trendy cafes occupy the lower levels. Farther away from the central areas, which are often noisy and crowded with tourists, is a world of small B&Bs and guesthouses. These considerably cheaper options offer quality lodging in quiet neighborhoods less frequented by weekend revelers and rowdy nightlife lovers.

  • A visit here won't last more than 20-30 mins but it's well worth it if you're interested in Earth's ancient geological and biological history. Note that the visitor's centre providing access to the fossils is only open during the summer months (Approx May - Sep) although the surrounding park and gardens are open all year. Check the website for exact opening times before making a dedicated trip.
  • This is a fantastic place for a wander - feels like you're 1,000 miles away in this beautiful sanctuary.
  • Sparingly open (11-4ish weekends) but a quirky and interesting look at a part of natural history not readily available elsewhere in the city. Worth a quiet meander during a run through the park, especially given the surreal atmosphere of the slot canyon-like quarry.
  • Top place to visit if your into paleontology 300 + million year old fossils.
  • Fossil exhibition based in Victoria Park.
