Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of St Andrew, Glasgow

4.7
#9 of 23 in Historic Sites in Glasgow
Admire the understated beauty of Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of St Andrew, dedicated to Scotland's patron saint and the city's most prominent Roman Catholic church. Completed in 1816, it was built during a time of restrictions on Catholic places of worship and is therefore fairly modest in its scale and design. Although it lacks a steeple and bell tower, the neo-Gothic building is renowned for its simple beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The gleaming white and gold interior features an impressive organ, vibrant stained-glass windows, and notable modern religious artwork. Complete your visit with some relaxation and contemplation in the small garden. It is the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the city and is located next to the river. It is modern or recently restored. It is worth to pay him a visit while strolling along the banks of the Clyde.

Where to stay in Glasgow

Glasgow's revitalized city center offers outstanding accommodations--along with some of the finest shopping outside London. Considered one of the finest Victorian cities in Britain, Glasgow is renowned for its centrally located hotels. Spacious rooms overlook the historical city center, and award-winning restaurants and trendy cafes occupy the lower levels. Farther away from the central areas, which are often noisy and crowded with tourists, is a world of small B&Bs and guesthouses. These considerably cheaper options offer quality lodging in quiet neighborhoods less frequented by weekend revelers and rowdy nightlife lovers.
