Pollok Country Park, Glasgow

4.7
#2 of 15 in Parks in Glasgow
Nature / Park
Escape from the city at Pollok Country Park, a 146-hectare (360-acre) expanse of well-manicured green space, previously named the Best Park in Europe. Stretch your legs on miles of trails, and choose a quiet picnic spot to forget about urban life. Before the building of a highway in 1994, the park was the largest urban green space in Europe. Visit shaggy Scottish Highland cattle, and view the eclectic antique and art collection of shipping magnate William Burrell. If you want to go faster than your own two feet can carry you, the park has also opened three mountain-biking routes. • Really enjoy Pollok Country Park with its extensive walkways, gardens and woodlands. Particularly worth a visit when the Burrell Collection reopens in 2020.  more »

  • Loved the park. Took a bus from the city center and walked through the park to the house. Beautiful scenery, birds singing, peaceful. The Hobbit Village was cute.  more »

  • Nice place to visit especially on a sunny day! Wonderful sights and a vast area for walks. Dog friendly for you pet lovers out there. This was my first visit and was unable to explore the whole park so will be back next chance I get. If the sun is out grab a picnic and take the kids and dogs and you won't be disappointed.
  • Beautiful views superbly presented. Pollok house is an outstanding example and well worth a leisurely visit. Don't miss the amazing herds of Highland cows.
  • I've been to the park a couple of times, very easy access if going by train as i did, a really pleasant walk along the long driveway to the main park area with 'Heilan Coos' in the fields alongside the road. The whole area is the type of walk where you can only walk slow because there's no sense of hurry, just a very pleasant place for a gentle walk enjoying nature
  • The gardens are beautiful when the flowers are in bloom. They also have a herd of Highland cows roaming around. It's a shame that the Burrell Collection is now closed for the next few years for renovation.
  • I love this park. One of the best in Glasgow. My daughter loves the fairy house garden And horses. Playground is ok but could be bit bigger.

Where to stay in Glasgow

Glasgow's revitalized city center offers outstanding accommodations--along with some of the finest shopping outside London. Considered one of the finest Victorian cities in Britain, Glasgow is renowned for its centrally located hotels. Spacious rooms overlook the historical city center, and award-winning restaurants and trendy cafes occupy the lower levels. Farther away from the central areas, which are often noisy and crowded with tourists, is a world of small B&Bs and guesthouses. These considerably cheaper options offer quality lodging in quiet neighborhoods less frequented by weekend revelers and rowdy nightlife lovers.
