  • An amazing resource library for the people of Glasgow, a truly unique thing to have for the people to go in for free and find out about history of the town, or of pretty much any topic. It does have a cafe for internet and stuff like that, but it's the old stuff which you can get from the helpful staff that mark this out as a real treasure for Glasgow and the surrounding area. If you haven't been... go and see what people have kept of our local history. It's amazing.
  • We visited on the vague notion of finding out some information about my 2 x great grandfather who was killed in a mining accident in 1900. To my utter amazement, the very helpful Archivist (Andy, I think) was able to track down the doctors' notes from Glasgow Royal Infirmary, which provided a very full picture of the circumstances of his admission to hospital, shortly before he passed away. It was very poignant to read these notes. What a treasure trove exists at the Mitchell, with very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
  • Founded by a tobacco merchant, once the biggest library in Europe, this may he the most important place in town. I gave a talk here at the Aye Write book festival but I'd love to come back here and work on my next book. Libraries are essential parts of the community. It's good to see one that is ào big, attractive and well used I'll be back
  • Love the mitchell, it's a great place to study! However not great opening hours!
  • Huge library of resources including computing, books, archives and events. The library is a great for meetings also.

Where to stay in Glasgow

Glasgow's revitalized city center offers outstanding accommodations--along with some of the finest shopping outside London. Considered one of the finest Victorian cities in Britain, Glasgow is renowned for its centrally located hotels. Spacious rooms overlook the historical city center, and award-winning restaurants and trendy cafes occupy the lower levels. Farther away from the central areas, which are often noisy and crowded with tourists, is a world of small B&Bs and guesthouses. These considerably cheaper options offer quality lodging in quiet neighborhoods less frequented by weekend revelers and rowdy nightlife lovers.
