Mackintosh House, Glasgow

4.4
Part of the Hunterian Art Gallery, Mackintosh House recreates the interior of the house of Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928). The original house was completely destroyed to make room for the expanding Glasgow University. However, the University later went to great lengths to re-create the house using modern materials. The house features original woodwork from Mackintosh’s home as well as carefully reassembled interiors, which exemplify Macintosh’s austere style. To visit, you must take a guided tour available every thirty minutes. Find out how to plan Glasgow trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

  • This is a guided tour only. £5 (£3) It was really interesting to see his work recreated in this house. The chairs were fascinating and so low. Not my style but I can see the attraction. Loved the ward...  more »
  • Made systematic exhibition are exhibiting works of Japan where there is this Mackintosh House. Low skills who translated description for inside Japan is one reason does not have a perfect score or thin understanding of art come, because I think the English version is more easy to understand English! Want a bit more increase quantity of souvenirs, scale of this and I will.

  • Beautiful architecture and interior design, definitely worth a visit for Mackintosh fans. The staff are very knowledgeable and give good insight.
  • It's interesting to see the reconstructed house but it's a shame that there isn't more of the original available.
  • It's OK - the exhibits could be a little richer
  • Well worth a visit.
  • Not Rennie Macintoshes original house but a pitch perfect recreation of all the important internal features.

Where to stay in Glasgow

Glasgow's revitalized city center offers outstanding accommodations--along with some of the finest shopping outside London. Considered one of the finest Victorian cities in Britain, Glasgow is renowned for its centrally located hotels. Spacious rooms overlook the historical city center, and award-winning restaurants and trendy cafes occupy the lower levels. Farther away from the central areas, which are often noisy and crowded with tourists, is a world of small B&Bs and guesthouses. These considerably cheaper options offer quality lodging in quiet neighborhoods less frequented by weekend revelers and rowdy nightlife lovers.
